Heavy rain
Memphis gets around 55 inches of rain in a typical year, and storms can flood low streets and underpasses fast. Water on the road hides potholes, and worn tires and wipers become a real hazard.
Memphis, Shelby County and the Mid-South
Skip the shop. We come to you.
Between potholes, river bridges and Poplar Avenue traffic, getting a car to a shop in Memphis can take all day. Our mechanics come to your driveway, office lot or apartment parking and fix it right there.
About us
Memphis keeps the country moving. The FedEx World Hub makes Memphis International one of the busiest cargo airports in the world, and the trucks that follow it fill I-40 and Lamar Avenue day and night. The people who live here drive a lot too, and when a car breaks down, a trip to the shop can swallow a whole day. Memphis Mobile Mechanic brings the shop to you.
We work in driveways in Cooper-Young and Germantown, apartment lots in Midtown and Cordova, office parks in East Memphis and neighborhoods from Frayser to Whitehaven. The mechanic pulls up in a loaded service vehicle carrying professional tools, a scan tool and usually the right part for your car.
Every job starts with a phone call. Tell us what the car is doing and a mechanic will ask the right questions, explain what it most likely needs and give you a price before work begins. If something else shows up, you hear about it and decide before we touch it.
What we fix
Plenty of repairs never need a trip to the shop. These are the ones Memphis drivers call us for most, all done where the car is parked.
Struts, shocks, ball joints, tie rods, control arms and sway bar links. Memphis potholes knock all of these loose, and we replace the worn parts in your driveway.
Brake pads, rotors, calipers and fluid. Stop-and-go on Poplar and I-240 wears brakes down fast, so grinding or a soft pedal deserves a call.
Summer heat weakens batteries and the first ice storm finishes them off. We test the battery and charging system together and replace it on the spot.
Memphis summers are hot and sticky. We find leaks, check the compressor and pressures and recharge the A/C so it cools properly again.
One click, a slow crank or a battery light that stays on. We test, find the part that actually failed and replace it without a tow.
We scan the codes, test what they point to and give you a straight answer on what's wrong and what the fix costs.
Radiators, water pumps, thermostats, hoses and fans that fail in August traffic. We catch leaks and weak parts before the engine overheats.
Oil and filter changes, fluid checks, filters, wipers and scheduled maintenance, done at home or at your workplace.
Worn belts and cracked or soft hoses replaced before they snap on the I-40 bridge or out on Lamar.
Dead in the driveway, stalling or lights acting up? We track electrical faults from battery cables and grounds to fuses, relays and sensors.
Hit a deep one? We check tires, wheels, tie rods, ball joints and struts, then tell you what needs replacing and whether you need an alignment.
Buying a used car in the Mid-South? We meet you at the car and inspect it from bumper to bumper before you hand over the money.
Have a repair that's not on this list? Call and ask. If it's safe to do on-site, we'll take it on.

Local know-how
The Mid-South has rough roads, wild weather and a lot of truck traffic. Here's what we see most around Memphis, and what to keep an eye on.
Memphis gets around 55 inches of rain in a typical year, and storms can flood low streets and underpasses fast. Water on the road hides potholes, and worn tires and wipers become a real hazard.
Long, muggy summers shorten battery life, push A/C systems hard and test cooling systems in stop-and-go traffic. Most summer breakdowns we see trace back to one of those three.
When ice hits Memphis, it hits hard. The February 2023 ice storm knocked out power to more than half of MLGW's customers at some point. Cold snaps like that expose weak batteries and worn tires overnight.
The I-40 Hernando de Soto Bridge closed in May 2021 after inspectors found a cracked beam, and it didn't fully reopen until August. When a river crossing goes down, every other route jams, and cars overheat and lose brakes in the backups.
Memphis is a freight town, and big rigs crowd I-40, I-240 and Lamar Avenue. Heavy trucks break up pavement, kick up debris that damages tires and windshields, and slow traffic to a stop-and-go crawl.
Quick hops between Midtown, East Memphis and the suburbs don't give the engine or battery time to fully warm up and recharge. Short-trip driving is harder on batteries and oil than steady highway miles.

Memphis roads
Memphis streets take a pounding from heavy rain, freeze-thaw winters and truck traffic, and it shows. City crews filled 82,149 potholes in 2024 alone, and there are always more waiting after the next big storm.
One hard hit can do more than rattle your teeth. Potholes bend wheels, pinch tires so they bubble on the sidewall, and knock tie rods, ball joints, struts and control arms out of shape. Watch for the car pulling to one side, a steering wheel that's no longer straight, new vibrations or clunks over bumps, or a bulge on the side of a tire.
We'll check the tires, wheels and suspension where your car is parked and replace worn or damaged parts on-site. Alignments need a shop's alignment rack, so if your car needs one after the repair, we'll tell you. To report a pothole on a city street, call 311. The interstates are TDOT's responsibility.
Car care calendar
Every Memphis season brings its own wear and tear. Here's how to stay ahead of it.
March to May
Severe storms, heavy rain and fresh potholes left by winter. Replace worn wipers, check tire tread and have the suspension looked at after a hard hit.
June to August
Heat and humidity. Test the battery before it leaves you stuck, make sure the A/C blows cold and keep an eye on the temperature gauge.
September to November
Milder days and the best time to catch up on brakes, belts, hoses and anything the summer heat wore out.
December to February
Ice storms and cold snaps. Check the battery, antifreeze and tire pressure before the first freeze, and stay off the roads when they ice over.
Mobile vs. shop
The work is pretty much the same. The difference is whether it takes your whole day.
FAQ
Here's what people around Memphis ask us most. Got another question? Call us.
Call (901) 459-3126Yes. We work across the Memphis area, including Germantown, Collierville, Cordova, Bartlett, Arlington, Southaven, Olive Branch and West Memphis. Give us your address and we'll give you a time.
No. Memphis ended its vehicle inspection and emissions testing program in 2013, so nobody checks your brakes, tires or lights for you. A yearly once-over from a mechanic catches problems before they turn into breakdowns.
Look for a bulge on the tire sidewall first. If the car pulls, vibrates or the steering wheel is crooked, call us. We'll check the tires, wheels and suspension and replace damaged parts on-site.
No. Alignments need a shop's alignment rack. We repair or replace the worn and damaged parts first, then let you know if the car needs an alignment afterward.
Yes. Deep cold is usually the last straw for a battery the summer already weakened. We test it along with the starter and charging system and get you going in your driveway.
Usually. Any level spot with room to get the hood and doors open works. Some apartment communities don't allow repairs, so it's worth asking the office first.
Same-day service is often possible, especially if you call in the morning. It depends on the repair, the parts and where you are in the metro.
It depends on the vehicle and the repair, and you'll get the price over the phone before we come out. You also skip the tow. Anything else we find, we explain and quote first.
Alignments and anything that needs a lift or heavy equipment, like transmission rebuilds or internal engine work. If your car needs that kind of work, we'll be honest about it and recommend a shop.
